NCWC Hosts Consultation Workshop to Develop Action Plan for 10th CEDAW Concluding Observations
The National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC) conducted a two-day consultation workshop from June 30 to 31, 2024, with relevant stakeholders to develop an action plan addressing the 10th CEDAW Concluding Observations. This workshop is a vital part of our ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and empower women in Bhutan and is attended by the representatives from RCSC, OAG, MoHA, DRC, OAG, RBP, MoESD, BNLI, Dratshang Lhentshog, JDWNRH, DLO, CSO and Dzongkhags & Thromde Gender and Child Focal points.
Bhutan ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in August 1981. In line with our commitment, Bhutan presented its 10th periodic report to the CEDAW Committee on October 10, 2023. Following a constructive dialogue, Bhutan received concluding observations from the Committee, which include important recommendations to further our progress in gender equality.
The consultation workshop played a crucial role in advancing our shared commitment by bringing together various stakeholders to develop a comprehensive action plan. This collaborative effort highlights our commitment to implement the CEDAW recommendations and create an environment where women and girls can thrive without discrimination. The program is supported by UNICEF.
